This autobiography of LTC David Williams, is one of the simplest, most powerful stories I've ever read. And I'm proud to say that I'm a 'read-aholic'. As a Black female living in the South and being surrounded by family members who served in the Military and worked on farms, this touched me immensely. I felt Mr. Williams' every pain, struggle, and joy while growing up "down East" in North Carolina during Jim Crow days, while working hard out in the fields, surviving death in Vietnam, and amid gross prejudices. I learned some things I did not know and yet was strongly encouraged by Mr. Williams' strength, tenacity, and endurance. As well as that of his dear wife, Mary. I teared up several times while reading this and I surely wish that I had met Mr. David and Mrs. Mary as my own mentors many years ago. A simple book, a good book, heartwarming and sincere. Loved it.
